today, let's talk about yesterday's funny story.

several years ago, I had a new project that install a bunch of nexus switchs.
but, something weird feeling was sufferd me in working.
when I touch switch chassis, popped with static electricity everytime.
so, I asked around, if you're feeling OK?
but, everyone has no problem. it happened just me.

so I guessed what is the problem. but I can't figure out it.
by chance, when I took off my jacket, and static electricity was gone like magic!
afterwards, I find out that suspect was polyester jacket.

polyester fiber is easy to make static electricity.
so, the static electricity that originated in my jacket was attacked me.

anyway in working, if you wear polyester fiber clothes, change it now.
it's good for you and devices.

IoT will be next network territory?

Many network vendor consider that IoT will be next territory for their business.
so, they are developing the mobile communication modules and the connecting infrastructures. like industry monitoring tools using surveillence camera, mobile controllable air conditioner, fry fan alarm tools if over cooking or not.

but I have some doubt for their strategy. It's start at simple question.
"Why that tools should connect to internet?"

I think that it's related to fundamental problem for human living.
of course, easy use of tools is good for everyone.
but first, It's violate to human freedom and the way of living.

once connecting to internet, the sensor will collect the information for working. then transfer the data and receive the proper guidance to tools.
that will be great convenience to many people.
maybe people think like that "It's so smart! how does it make?"

but it's just done there?
No. IoT vendor will could collect every data using the tools. construct big data. then make out new service using the big data.
in this procedures, people would be obstructed their freedom by IoT devices.
their lives pattern will be great library for business and formal guidance will repress people unconsciously.

Is it megalomania?
No, already many territory of internet, indiscreet information collecting and crafty induction is doing now.
for example, your wish list recommendation service and credit card discount suggestion and so on.
in IoT system, it will be more and more.

Second, in energy saving aspect, It's severely waste.

If your know the datacenter power consumption, you would not be agree IoT
world wide datacenters were consumed about 30 billion watt on 2012 year.
it's almost 30 nuclear power station's electricity generation amount.

now 2015 year. more and more power is needed to maintain more datacenters.
so, in this aspect, IoT will accelerate power consumption.
because every IoT device should connect to service infrastructures.
even in if infrastructure virtualization deployed, same conclusion will get.

so, I think that IoT will be great threaten for human living.
I already forgot phone number and birthday of close friends and relatives.
because of phone book and calendar service.

I'm concerned to lose my free will and privacy.
please consider again for your freedom and energy saving.

Ubuntu iSCSI compatibility problem.

recently, I had build a NAS storage to connect vSphere ESXi Hypervisor.


so far, I suffered so many trial and error.


Generally, Ubuntu has good system stability and compatibility.

but some part is not. especially at storage area.


iSCSI and NAS is basic protocols at storage area network.

but Ubuntu has some bugs.


Ubuntu 14.04 and ietd(iSCSI daemon) or nfs-kernel-server(NFS daemon) is not show good compatibility.

(of course Ubuntu 14.04.1 solved this problem for NFS.)


Most of all, Speed is not satisfied me. especially at using  iSCSI.

even I tuned Jumbo frame and added better performance 1Gbit NICs.

but at sequential write, 20~30MB/s speed was slow down than previous version.

Ubuntu 12.04 version was show better performance.

I think it's not just 3.14 kernel's characteristic.

at same disk volume, iSCSI speed 20~30MB/s but, NFS speed 60~80MB/s.

I couldn't understand why this outcomes occured.

so I changed iSCSI initiator from ESXi to Windows.

after changing, I watched unbelievable outcome. 70~80MB/s speed.

in this case, you may think, "It's ESXi's problem. not Ubuntu."

but I 'm not think so. there are many storage vendor using iSCSI target server daemon(ietd).

they don't suffer same problem like me. and most of them use CentOS as base system.

in my opinion, Ubuntu don't care compatibility with iSCSI target daemon.


If Ubuntu dev team consider cloud storage system as future step, SAN protocol tuning must will be most important aim.

MS released Windows Storage Server edition and provide their software to various server vendors.

It's big threats for Ubuntu. I want that Ubuntu not just stay Openstack project.
