Cisco Router Password Recovery

1. When router is booting, press Ctrl+Break keys. then enter the ROMMON mode.

Readonly ROMMON initialized


2. Change the register value. then router pass-through the NVRAM(Config).

rommon 1 > confreg 0x2142


3. After changing register value, reboot the router using reset command.
You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect

rommon 2 > reset


4. After booting, change the password or erase config.

Router#erase startup-config


5. Reboot router and enter the ROMMON mode again.

Readonly ROMMON initialized


6. Change the register value originally.

rommon 1 > confreg 0x2102


7. Reboot again.
You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect

rommon 2 > reset
